About ACGS

The Association of Grain Stores brings together Central Grain Stores from across the UK to collaborate, share best practice, and strengthen the sector’s voice. It exists to support members in addressing common challenges and championing the long-term success of cooperative grain storage.

The organisation is designed to be inclusive, with every member store appointing a representative to a steering group that guides its work, each with an equal voice. Membership fees are modest and tiered according to store size, with no further commitments beyond participation and engagement.

We focus on four key priorities:

  • Advocating for supportive government policy for grain cooperatives in both England and Scotland.
  • Developing training, career development and employee capacity-building initiatives.
  • Sharing health and safety procedures, best practices and incident learnings.
  • Creating a forum for open discussion on the day-to-day operation of cooperative grain stores.

The Association is coordinated by EFFP, who bring extensive knowledge of the sector and reports into the member-led steering group. While each store operates independently, the benefits of working together are clear: shared learning, stronger advocacy and greater resilience.
